asks in shops and offices could be ditched if lockdown restrictions fall as planned on June 21.

It comes as the Government’s Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (Sage) committee will hold an emergency meeting on Thursday to discuss the rapid spread of the Indian variant in the UK, the Telegraph reports.

George Eustice, the Environment Secretary, admitted there were local hotspots of the variant in the UK and did not rule out local lockdowns.
